Portfolio Review
AdaptD Web Design and Development
AdaptD is a small web design and development firm based in Bucharest, Romania.
- Pros:
- From a thumbnail standpoint you can clearly read their quote which I like. I think if you can get an idea of a company from just the thumbnail then you designed your site well.
- I like the redundancy in the navbar and footer.
- Cons:
- Overuse of red / green, especially in the navbar.
Jason Reed Web Design
Freelance San-Fran Area based web-design, development and SEO.
- Pros:
- Single Page
- His "navbar" opens relevant content while keeping you on the single page.
- Readability, even as a thumbnail image.
- Sociability. He has links to several major social networking site (Professional and Semi-Pro included).
- Cons:
- None, this page is awesome IMHO.
Emotions by Mike
UK Based Freelance Web Graphics Designer.
- Pros:
- Single Page
- Clicking on each graphic loads the image in a separate window, scaled for the image.
- Right Clicking any image warns the user the images are copyrighted, which I liked a lot.
- Cons:
- Small Hard to read print.
- Almost no information present at all, a few links, a short paragraph. Hard to sell yourself with that little IMHO.
- The code for his website has a few errors in it, making the page display differently then he expects.
Design Pirate
Designer Cece out of Redmond, WA.
- Pros:
- Her media is broke down into separate galleries which can be useful for people looking for specific skills.
- The way the images are displayed prevents most people from taking them, you cannot right click save as.
- Cons:
- You learn almost nothing about the designer from this page.
- In the gallery, when you get to the end, the display viewer doesn't wrap back to image one...it's like a dead end.
- Small button in top left is only way to get back to home page.
Romulo Design and Development
Romulo is a developer and designer with cross platform and multiple OS coding experience.
- Pros:
- This is my favorite non-single page site I have reviewed.
- I love z-index, and Romulo make good use of this on his page.
- The images are B&W until you hover on them, letting the user know they are active by changing to full color.
- Consistency. Every page looks the same, uses the same colors, and no page dead ends.
- Nav Redundancy in Header and Footer. I think it helps people navigate a site better. If what they are looking for is at the bottom of a page, they can still navigate without scrolling back to top.
- I like the color scheme, I think it is very readable and that all the colors work well with each other.
- Cons:
- Not a single page design.
- Code is HTML5, which is not compliant with all browsers.
- The Blog. It is the page with the least on it, and I personally would never have one on my portfolio
Visual Groove
Febby Tan is an independent graphic artist in Indonesia.
- Pros:
- The graphics in the portfolio are coded to change on hover, which is an effect I really like in web design.
- The I create rhythm from colors header is large enough to be read when the page is thumbnailed.
- Sociability. Links to several social networking sites. Many avenues to approach this artist.
- Image open in their own scaled window, making this a single page portfolio.
- Navbar links to area on the single page so you can still get to what you really want quickly.
- Cons:
- Again, IMHO I find no Cons in the design of this page.
Mario Coelho: Creative Director
Toronto Based Webmarketing Company led by Creative Director Mario Coelho
- Pros:
- I like the layered design they have in the images with the small parts of several websites.
- I like the downloadable resume on the front page.
- I like the glow effect behind the front four buttons. I also like the hover effect on the buttons.
- Cons:
- Lack of Sociability.
- The text under the images is almost unreadable with the choice of background. Same goes for the footer.
- Images are not protected from right click, save as...I believe this to be important functionality.
31Three: The portfolio of Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain
Creative Services for the Design-Challenged Developer.
- Pros:
- In the Portfolio Page, on the left side, when there is an applicable quote I like the way it is added to the page.
- In the Notebook, I like the step by step progression shown in building for the customer and the choices.
- In Contacts, the form is well designed, and I like the right side information. It is well worded and is putting the client at ease.
- Cons:
- Not a single page site.
- Images not protected from right-click, save as.
- Not a huge fan of the eco-earthy color choices.
The design portfolio of Chikezei Ejiasi
Chikezei Ejiasi is a User Interface Designer in California who works for Oakley.
- Pros:
- He designed all his own graphics, backgrounds and navigation links to fit his trademarked theme. I like it.
- Good mix of colors that all fit the theme well.
- I like the side navigation on the portfolio page, linking to different projects.
- Cons:
- Small text is a little hard to read.
- Images not right-click, save as protected. I will keep pointing this out. Like I said, I feel it's important.
X Producciones Graficas
Javier Castillo is a graphics designer in La Paz Bolivia.
- Pros:
- The graphic on the homepage is eye catching and different, I like it!
- I like the footer and the way contact information is listed. I've never seen it before and its catchy.
- Another thing I have never seen before is the way the graphics are loaded and displayed on the portfolio page. Interesting.
- Cons:
- There is a weird transition when you click from link to link in the navbar. I really dislike it.
- Page is not translated into English, not is there an option to do so. This may not be feasible, I'm unsure.
